This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Leader.
It might not have been at the identical stature as sparing festive fowl, but the county's top official conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a current administration.
“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a long and happy life away from worry.”
This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The swine, contributed by a first responder, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “6-7” – originating from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently made “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.
A New Life
The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It captures the essence of Miami: vibrant, varied, and based in heritage that unite the community. Annually, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
