President Trump Welcomes Loved Ones of Shot Guard Soldiers to White House
Former President Trump announced on Sunday that he has asked the relatives of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the presidential home.
He added that he contacted her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Information on the Heartbreaking Event
Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a shooting on last Wednesday in DC.
Her fellow service member, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, remains hospitalized in grave state.
Vigils across West Virginia have been held in their remembrance.
Presidential Call
The commander-in-chief said he’s discussed a meeting at the presidential residence for the loved ones of both members of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a tough thing, come to the White House. We’re going to honor her,” Trump told journalists. “And in the same way with Andrew, recover or not.”
Community Reaction
Community members assembled over the weekend at Webster County high school in the state to pay respects to Sarah.
Both they had been serving with the military unit as part of the president’s national effort to assist public safety in the capital.
Honoring Sarah Beckstrom
“Sarah was the individual that educators hoped for. She behaved with calm resilience, a warm expression and a optimistic attitude that inspired people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s former high school, informed the Associated Press. “She was caring, compassionate and always willing to assist people.”
Funeral details for Sarah are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Steps and Policy Revisions
Authorities have indicted a 29-year-old suspect with a charge of first-degree murder and two counts of assault with intent to kill while armed.
The event caused the Trump administration to halt asylum processing and temporarily stop issuing entry permits to holders of Afghan passports.
Status of the Airman
Wolfe, a native of the city, started his military career in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, per the AP.
He is still undergoing care and is “battling to survive”, the state’s governor Morrisey said on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi told Fox News Sunday that she also intended to visit his relatives.
Memory of the Fallen Soldier
Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from her high school in mid-2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a military police officer with honor, per the military.
“She had a lot of goodness and she definitely had bravery,” the governor told the crowd at the vigil. “Though her time ended too soon, she has created a legacy that’s going to last forever.”
