Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

The forward, with six months left on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
