Iran Reports Attack on American Facility in Bahrain, As Part of Regional Military Operations.
Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed operations throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a large-scale and continuing assault targeting the nation by the US and Israel.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone near the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any destruction is not yet known and the US has remained silent.
Regional Interceptions
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house US military bases - reported they have shot down incoming projectiles in their airspace.
In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had successfully engaged several missiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
IRGC Statement
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the attack on the Islamic Republic launched by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.
That US-Israeli operation - initiated at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on areas associated with the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the Iranian people to rise up against the leadership.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the UAE announced that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses engaged the missiles with great effectiveness and destroyed a several projectiles," the statement continued.
The statement noted debris landed in a neighborhood in the capital, resulting in some material damage and fatalities.
The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
