Fast bowler Atkinson Compounds England's Fitness Concerns.

'Significant concern' for England as Atkinson goes off suffering a hamstring problem.

Gus Atkinson added to the injury concerns plaguing England upon exiting the playing area early on day two of the Boxing Day Test versus the Australians.

The right-arm seamer felt a problem in his hamstring after the final ball of the fourth over during the morning session.

Team management reported Atkinson felt some "soreness" and would spend time away from the action to undergo evaluation "over the next few hours".

The final Test in this Ashes battle beginning on 4 January starts this coming Sunday.

England have already lost fast bowlers Mark Wood with a knee problem and Jofra Archer with an abdominal strain on this Ashes tour.

A replacement bowler was added to the party as cover for Wood.

The seamer had a tough time early in the series, taking just a handful of scalps.

He was omitted for the Adelaide match, only to be brought back for the Melbourne Test in the playing XI.

The county bowler performed better in the fourth Test, taking two wickets in Australia's first innings, and scoring 28 runs as a batsman being one of only three English batsmen to reach double figures.

Following a brief spell at the end of day one, he returned the next day and removed Scott Boland taken by the wicketkeeper.

However, on the final ball of the fifth over, he bowled a variation to Travis Head and promptly felt for his hamstring.

Atkinson returned to the side for the fourth Ashes Test after being left out the Adelaide game.
