The final episode of the celebrity version of the popular reality show was mistakenly made available by overseas distributors before its planned UK airing on Thursday, according to a network statement.

It is understood that the finale was watched by a few hundred subscribers of the online platform the streaming service in the North American country; they were able to watch it for a couple of hours until it was removed.

This installment being released was not considered a error by the producing network, and a spokesperson for the company asked those who believe they know the outcome of the series to "avoid sharing any reveals".

"We urge anyone who thinks they know the ending of the celebrity edition to hold any information they have to themselves," the statement read.

"We ask you to refrain from sharing potential spoilers so that the millions of fans who have been faithfully following every twist and turn of the series can experience the final this evening."

The Celebrity Traitors is currently the most-watched TV show of the current year, with an mean of 12.6 million people over the first four episodes.

Fans of the series have been waiting to see whether traitors Cat Burns and Alan Carr will secure the £100,000 for charity or whether loyal contestants the faithful contestants will be triumphant.

A former winner of the third season of the show stated that "no one likes reveals", which are "joy's enemy".

The winner mentioned he will be settling in to view the finale tonight as it airs, with his entire family and "some snacks".

Thursday's concluding installment is extended to 70 minutes on BBC One, with an longer version of the companion show scheduled to broadcast on the secondary channel after the final.

Presenter Ed Gamble will be joined by the contestants and Claudia Winkleman as they respond to the series conclusion.
